China launched a pair of satellites from a barge Oct. 8. A Long March 11 rocket launched from the barge in the Yellow Sea at 9:10 am EDT (1310 GMT) and placed the CentiSpace-1 S5 and S6 satellites. The satellites are part of a network to enhance the accuracy of the Beidou satellite navigation system. Meanwhile, A Long March 2D lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at 7:43 pm EDT (2343 GMT) Oct. 9 and placed the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S) into a sun-synchronous orbit. ASO-S, also known as Kuafu-1, will conduct studies of the sun.
