Indian government selects new head of ISRO

The Indian government has selected a new head of its space agency, ISRO. S. Somanath will take over as chairman of ISRO on Friday, succeeding K. Sivan, whose original three-year term in 2018 was extended by one year. Somanath is director of ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, which specializes in launch vehicle development. Somanath said a priority as ISRO chairman will be to continue reforms intended to help grow private sector space capabilities.
