NASA's James Webb Space Telescope is now fully deployed. The second of two "wings" of the primary mirror locked into position Jan. 8, completing the major steps to get the spacecraft into its operational configuration after launch two weeks earlier. The complex series of deployments went almost perfectly, project leaders said. Engineers will now spend the next several months aligning the telescope's optics and commissioning its instruments, allowing the spacecraft to begin science operations six months after launch.
