SXM-7 satellite (Maxar) A satellite launched for SiriusXM last month is malfunctioning. Sirius XM and satellite manufacturer Maxar Technologies said Wednesday that the SXM-7 satellite, launched Dec. 13, suffered failures of unspecified "payload units" during in-orbit testing earlier this month. The companies said the full extent of the problem is not yet known. The satellite is insured for $225 million, and the space insurance industry fears that SiriusXM will file a claim on the satellite. SiriusXM said the problems with SXM-7 will not affect its satellite radio service provided by existing satellites, which are expected to operate for several more years.
