ESA and NASA formally agree to cooperate on lunar Gateway

Lunar Gateway illustration (NASA) ESA and NASA have formally cemented their partnership in the Artemis program. The two agencies signed a memorandum of understanding regarding ESA's participation in the NASA-led lunar Gateway program, leveraging the existing intergovernmental agreement that manages the International Space Station. ESA will provide habitation and refueling modules for the Gateway and two additional Orion service modules. NASA in turn will fly ESA astronauts on future missions to the moon. ESA awarded contracts earlier this month for those Gateway elements.
