Russia endorses ISS extension, plans new station

The Russian space agency Roscosmos announced Tuesday it plans to continue to participate in the International Space Station to 2024, then take its modules to form a new station. The Roscosmos statement is the first time the Russian government formally endorsed extending operations of the ISS beyond 2020, more than a year after the US government announced plans to do so. However, Roscosmos said that in 2024 it would take its ISS modules and use them as the basis for a new space station, raising questions about the future of the ISS beyond 2024.
