SES picks SpaceX for two launches
Posted: Thu, Feb 26, 2015, 7:49 AM ET (1249 GMT)
SES-16/GovSat illustration (SES) European satellite operator SpaceX, which ordered three new satellites last week, announced Wednesday that it will launch two of them on SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets in 2017. SES said it will launch its SES-14 and SES-16/GovSat spacecraft on Falcon 9 rockets in 2017. Those launches will take place from SpaceX's new launch site near Brownsville, Texas, the first SpaceX launches announced to take place there. SES is also launching its SES-9 spacecraft on a SpaceX Falcon 9 later this year; that launch will be the first to use a Falcon 9 with "uprated" engines that produce additional thrust.
