NASA postpones upcoming ISS spacewalks
Posted: Tue, Aug 12, 2014, 9:06 AM ET (1306 GMT) NASA has delayed a pair of spacewalks that had been planned to take place from the International Space Station later this month because of a battery issue. The spacewalks, which had been scheduled for August 21 and 29 to perform maintenance on the station, will now be rescheduled after a SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft arrives at the station next month, carrying new spacesuit batteries. NASA officials said a "potential issue" with a fuse in the spacesuit battery led to the decision. The delay likely means a change in crews for performing the EVAs: Steve Swanson, who was scheduled to perform the spacewalks with Reid Wiseman, is slated to return to Earth in early September, before the Dragon cargo mission launches. The decision does not affect a planned spacewalk by Russian cosmonauts, which remains on schedule for August 18.
