AT&T will acquire direct-to-home satellite television company DirecTV in a cash and stock deal valued at nearly $50 billion, the companies announced this week. AT&T will pay $95 per share of DirecTV stock in a combination of cash and AT&T stock, valuing DirecTV at $48.5 billion. The total size of the deal, counting debt assumed by AT&T, is $67.1 billion. AT&T plans to combine DirecTV's television offerings with its own broadband and mobile phone businesses. The deal requires regulatory approval, and may take as long as one year to close.
