Shuttle Landing Facility runway (NASA) A Florida state agency is in line to take over operations of the runway at the Kennedy Space Center used for Space Shuttle landings, NASA announced Friday. NASA said it had selected Space Florida to begin negotiations on an agreement to maintain and operate the Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF) at KSC. The SLF, more than 4,500 meters long and 90 meters wide, was built to handle landings by the shuttle orbiters. Space Florida is hoping to use the SLF for commercial users, including suborbital vehicle developer XCOR Aerospace and air-launch company Stratolaunch Systems.
