SpaceX to launch two AsiaSat satellites

Falcon 9 launch of 1st Dragon spacecraft (NASA/KSC) SpaceX will launch two AsiaSat communications satellite in 2014 under a deal announced on Wednesday. SpaceX will launch the AsiaSat 6 and AsiaSat 8 communications satellites on Falcon 9 rockets from Cape Canaveral, Florida, in the first half of 2014, the companies announced. The two satellites are currently being built by Space Systems/Loral. The deal is the latest sign that SpaceX is making inroads into existing commercial launch markets, in addition to its contracts to launch cargo spacecraft for NASA to the International Space Station as well as develop commercial crew transportation systems. SpaceX had previously won contracts for commercial communications satellite launches from SES and Thaicom.
