Astrium wins four-satellite order from SES

Astra 2E 2F 2G illustration (EADS) European satellite operator SES has ordered four new communications satellite from EADS Astrium, the companies announced Monday. The order, first reported Friday by Space News, includes the Astra 2E, 2F, 2G, and 5B satellites, which will be built for launch between 2012 and 2014. SES will operate the satellites from existing locations at 28.2 and 31.5 degrees east in GEO. All four satellites will be based on the Eurostar E3000 model and will carry Ka- and Ku-band payloads. SES stated the order was worth more than €500 million (US$750 million).
