Spacewalkers install solar truss segment
Posted: Fri, Mar 20, 2009, 7:16 AM ET (1116 GMT)
STS-119: EVA #1 (NASA) Astronauts installed the final truss segment to the International Space Station during a spacewalk on Thursday. Steven Swanson and Richard Arnold spent just over six hours outside the space station during an EVA that ended at 7:23 pm EDT (2323 GMT), the first of three spacewalks planned for the STS-119 mission. The two bolted the S6 truss segment into place after it was moved into position by the station's robotic arm, and also attached power and data cables that link the segment to the rest of the station. Station controllers plan to unfurl the segment's solar panels on Friday.
