Orbital reports increased revenue, profits
Posted: Sat, Jul 22, 2006, 12:02 PM ET (1602 GMT)
Orbital Sciences Corporation reported increased revenues and income in its fiscal second quarter on Thursday, thanks primarily to its satellite manufacturing division. The company reported an operating income of $16.6 million on $197.0 million in revenue in the second quarter of 2006, compared to operating income of $14.7 million on revenues of $177.4 million in the same quarter of 2005. That increase was only entirely attributed to Orbital's satellite and related space systems unit, which saw revenues increase by over $20 million in the second quarter versus a year ago. The company credited that increase to several commercial communications satellite orders in the past year; company officials said they expect to win contracts for two more similar satellites by the end of the year.
