Spacewalkers complete ISS repairs
Posted: Tue, Jul 11, 2006, 7:58 AM ET (1158 GMT) Two astronauts overcame some minor problems to complete critical repairs to a "railcar" on the International Space Station on Monday. STS-121 astronauts Piers Sellers and Mike Fossum spent six hours and 47 minutes outside the shuttle-station complex starting at 8:14 am EDT (1214 GMT) Monday, their second spacewalk of the mission. Their key task was to replace an umbilical cable used by mobile transporter railcar that runs along the station's truss; the cable was inadventently cut last December. The two struggled with the installation of the new cable, but were able to get it properly in place. The two also helped install a new spare cooling pump module for the station. A third spacewalk by Sellers and Fossum, to test shuttle repair techniques, is scheduled for Wednesday. The shuttle and station crews will spend today moving items to and from the Leonardo cargo carrier module temporarily docked to the station.
