Sea Launch puts Galaxy 13 into orbit
Posted: Wed, Oct 1, 2003, 11:17 AM ET (1517 GMT) A Zenit 3SL booster successfully launched a joint US/Japanese communications satellite early Tuesday. The booster lifted off at 12:03 am EDT (0403 GMT) Tuesday from the Sea Launch Odyssey mobile launch platform, located on the Equator in the eastern Pacific at 154 degrees west longitude. The booster successfully placed into GTO the Galaxy 13/Horizons-1 communications satellite. The Boeing 601HP satellite is jointly owned by PanAmSat, which calls the satellite Galaxy 13, and Horizons International, a partnership between PanAmSat and JSAT, which refers to the satellite as Horizons-1. The spacecraft, to be located at 127 degrees west, carries 24 C-band transponders that will be used by PanAmSat for video distribution as well as 24 Ku-band transponders that will be used by Horizons for digital video and data services for the US and Asia. The launch is the third this year for Sea Launch.
