Kosmos launch delayed one day
Posted: Fri, Sep 26, 2003, 9:54 AM ET (1354 GMT)
Kosmos-3M file photo (SSC) The launch of six small satellites on a Russian Kosmos booster has been delayed 24 hours to correct a problem with the launch vehicle, Russian officials said Friday. The Kosmos-3M booster was scheduled to lift off Friday from Plesetsk and place six small satellites into low Earth orbit. However, a problem with a fuel filter on the booster led ground controllers to scrub the launch and reschedule it for Saturday, September 27. Three of the six spacecraft on the Kosmos are part of the Disaster Monitoring Constellation, a network of microsatellites designed to prove images to aid in disaster recovery efforts worldwide. Those three satellites were funded by Nigeria, Turkey, and the UK, and built by British satellite manufacturer SSTL. The other satellites include a South Korean science satellite and two Russian payloads.
