  • XCOR Aerospace's EZ-Rocket rocket plane achieved another milestone late last week when it performed two flights in one day. The two flights took place Friday a little over five hours apart at the Mojave, California, airport. • Indian officials said Sunday they are planning to launch a mission to the Moon in 2007, according to India Express. The chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said such a mission, using a modified version of India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), could be carried out for 3.5 billion rupees (US$72 million). ISRO has discussed in the recent past the possibility of a lunar mission late this decade.
  • A proposed light-pollution ordinance in Loudoun County, Virginia, a fast-growing suburb of Washington, DC, has run into some unexpected opposition, the Washington Post reported late last week. A county supervisor warned that the bill, patterned after those passed in other cities and counties and backed by the International Dark Sky Association, would put strict limits on outdoor Christmas light displays. While the bill would permit displays using "typical" lighting, supervisor Eugene A. Delgaudio said that Loudoun County's displays "are not typical. The more atypical the better." County supervisors will vote on the bill this week.
