Kosmos launches two military satellites

Kosmos-3M file photo (SSC) A Russian Kosmos booster successfully launched two satellites for the Russian military early Monday. The Kosmos-3M booster lifted off at 2:36 am EDT (0636 GMT) from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northern Russia, according to a report by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti. It placed into orbit two satellites, designed Kosmos 2390 and 2391. The details of the two satellites were not revealed, although Western analysts have speculated that the booster may have been carrying a Parus-class military navigation satellite. The launch is the second Kosmos-3M flight of 2002; a launch May 28 placed a military reconnaissance satellite into orbit.
