Ariane 6 launches Amazon Leo satellites
Posted: Sat, May 2, 2026, 11:23 AM ET (1523 GMT)
An Ariane 6 launched more Amazon Leo satellites Thursday. An Ariane 64 lifted off from Kourou, French Guiana, at 4:57 am EDT (0857 GMT), putting 32 Amazon Leo satellites into orbit nearly two hours later. With this launch, Amazon has deployed more than 300 broadband satellites, but the company is still far short of a requirement in its license to have half of its planned 3,232 satellites in orbit by late July. Amazon requested in January that the FCC either extend that deadline by two years or waive it, citing a lack of launch capacity. Amazon plans to launch many of its satellites on New Glenn and Vulcan rockets, both of which are currently grounded.
