Posted: Fri, May 26, 2023, 10:38 PM ET (0238 GMT)
A Falcon 9 launched 21 satellites for Iridium and OneWeb May 20, including a OneWeb technology demonstration spacecraft. The Falcon 9 lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at 9:16 am EDT (1316 GMT), one day after a last-minute launch scrub. The rocket deployed five spare Iridium satellites and 16 OneWeb satellites. The OneWeb payloads included JoeySat, which is designed to test capabilities for a second-generation constellation the company has said could start launching as soon as 2025. It will test the ability to remotely direct beams and signal strength to respond to spikes in demand.
