FCC opens Space Bureau
Posted: Fri, Apr 14, 2023, 9:40 PM ET (0140 GMT)
The FCC inaugurated its new Space Bureau Tuesday as part of its efforts to modernize regulations. The Space Bureau will be led by Julie Kearney, a law and policy veteran who joined the FCC as a special counsel in February. Kearney said her first priority is "modernizing regulations to match our new realities," including faster processing times in response to unprecedented demand for new satellites, while also focusing on debris and space safety. The FCC announced last fall it would convert its International Bureau, which had been handling space matters, into a Space Bureau and a standalone Office of International Affairs to give more attention to space issues at the agency.
