Russia launched a military communications satellite Tuesday. A Soyuz-2.1a rocket lifted off from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome at 8:48 am eDT (1248 GMT) and placed a Meridian-M satellite into orbit. The satellite is the latest in a series that provide military communications services from highly elliptical orbits and likely will replace one that recently failed.
