Russia halts Soyuz launches from French Guiana
Posted: Sat, Mar 5, 2022, 11:27 AM ET (1627 GMT)
Soyuz launch of Galileo satellites Sept 2015 (ESA) Russia announced Saturday it was suspending Soyuz launch activities in French Guiana in response to European sanctions. Roscosmos said it would halt launch preparations and withdraw Russian personnel from French Guiana. The announcement will, at a minimum, delay a Soyuz launch of two Galileo navigation satellites that had been scheduled for April, along with other EU and ESA missions scheduled to launch on Soyuz through next year. The EU said the decision would not affect the "continuity and quality" of Galileo services. Roscosmos also announced that it was now "inappropriate" for NASA to cooperate with Roscosmos on the Venera-D mission to Venus. However, that mission has suffered extensive delays and lacked a firm NASA role.
