JWST completes sunshield deployment
Posted: Sat, Jan 8, 2022, 9:07 AM ET (1407 GMT)
NASA celebrated the completed deployment of the James Webb Space Telescope's sunshield Tuesday. Controllers tensioned the final two layers of the five-layer sunshield Tuesday morning, stretching them into their final shape, after doing the same for the other three layers on Monday. Project officials said that the deployment went "better than we could have hoped" with no serious issues. With the sunshield now in place, NASA is turning its attention to the telescope itself, with plans today to move a secondary mirror into position.
