Rocket Lab launches Japanese SAR satellite

Electron launch of StriX-A, Dec. 2020 (Rocket Lab) Rocket Lab launched a Japanese synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite early Tuesday. An Electron rocket lifted off from Rocket Lab's New Zealand launch site at 5:09 am EST (1009 GMT) and deployed the StriX-Alpha satellite for Synspective an hour later. The satellite is the first in a constellation of eventually 30 satellites that will provide SAR imagery for the Japanese startup, which raised $100 million last year. The launch was the seventh and final mission of 2020 for Rocket Lab.
