Thales Alenia wins SES satellite contracts
Posted: Sat, Aug 15, 2020, 4:25 PM ET (2025 GMT)
Thales Alenia Space has won contracts from SES for two C-band satellites. Thales Alenia Space said it will build the SES-22 and SES-23 television broadcast satellites using its Spacebus 4000 B2 platform. SES said that the satellites ordered from Thales Alenia Space are "contingency satellites" that will ensure SES can clear 300 megahertz of auctioned spectrum two years ahead of the FCC's December 2025 deadline, qualifying the company for up to $3.97 billion in incentive payments. The satellite orders are the first in the C-band clearing effort to go to a non-US manufacturer.
