Technical problem scrubs Falcon 9 launch
Posted: Tue, Jan 6, 2015, 1:34 PM ET (1834 GMT)
Falcon 9 v1.1 on pad before CRS-5 launch (SpaceX) The launch of a commercial cargo spacecraft to the International Space Station was scrubbed Tuesday when its Falcon 9 rocket suffered a technical problem in its upper stage less than 90 seconds before the scheduled liftoff. The launch of the Falcon 9 form Cape Canaveral, Florida, was scheduled for 6:20 am EST (1120 GMT), but the countdown was halted when controllers noted a problem with the thrust vectoring control system on the rocket's upper stage. The launch has been rescheduled for 5:09 am EST (1009 GMT) Friday, assuming the problem is corrected. The Dragon is carrying more than 2,000 kilograms of supplies, experiments, and hardware for the ISS and its crew. SpaceX also plans to use the launch to perform another test of its efforts to reuse the Falcon 9, by attempting to land the first stage on a ship-based platform in the Atlantic Ocean downrange of the launch site.
