X-37B to use former shuttle hangars
Posted: Fri, Oct 10, 2014, 7:48 AM ET (1148 GMT)
X-37B after OTV-1 landing (USAF) Two hangars formerly used by the Space Shuttle program will be taken over by a secretive Air Force military spaceplane program, NASA announced this week, confirming earlier reports. The X-37B program will use Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF) bays 1 and 2, two of the three hangars at the Kennedy Space Center where shuttle orbiters were processed between missions. The Air Force may also use KSC's Shuttle Landing Facility runway for landings of the X-37B, a small winged vehicle that carries out classified missions for the Air Force. The Air Force has at least two X-37B vehicles, one of which has been in orbit for more than 600 days. The third OPF at KSC was previously assigned to Boeing for use on its CST-100 commercial crew vehicle program.
