Veteran NASA astronaut Foale retires
Posted: Tue, Aug 13, 2013, 9:12 AM ET (1312 GMT) Michael Foale, a British-born NASA astronaut, is leaving the space agency after 30 years there, NASA announced. Foale joined NASA in 1983, working at mission control at Johnson Space Center, and joined the astronaut corps in 1987. Foale flew on six space missions, including long-duration stays on the Mir space station in 1997 and on the ISS in 2003-2004. He also flew on the STS-103 mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope in 1999. Foale is leaving NASA to work on "advancing green aviation technology," according to NASA.
