NASA deputy administrator to step down
Posted: Wed, Aug 7, 2013, 7:47 AM ET (1147 GMT) The number-two official at NASA will leave the space agency next month to take a key position at an airline pilot union, the agency announced Tuesday. Lori Garver will leave NASA on September 6 to become the general manager of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). Garver had been deputy administrator of NASA since mid-2009, taking the position at the same time Charles Bolden became administrator. She became best known, and sometimes criticized, for her role in advocating changes to NASA programs, including an increased emphasis on commercial activities.
