LightSquared CEO steps down
Posted: Wed, Feb 29, 2012, 8:45 AM ET (1345 GMT)
The CEO of a controversial communications company that sought to develop a hybrid satellite-terrestrial network resigned on Tuesday. Sanjiv Ahuja resigned as CEO of LightSquared but will remain as chairman of the board of the company. The company did not give a reason for Ahuja's resignation. LightSquared, which has one communications satellite in GEO, sought permission from the FCC to operate an ancillary terrestrial network to provide 4G communications throughout the US, including underserved rural areas. That effort met with opposition because of concerns that LightSquared's terrestrial signals would interfere with GPS signals, a concern supported by testing. Earlier this month the FCC moved to suspend LightSquared's terrestrial license, a development the company is seeking to overturn.
