China launches two satellites

Long March 2D launch of Shiyan 4 (Xinhua) A Long March rocket placed two Chinese research satellites into orbit on Sunday. The Long March 2D rocket lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at 7:15 EST Saturday (0015 GMT, 8:15 am Beijing time Sunday) and placed the Shiyan 4 and Chuangxin 1-03 satellites into orbit. Shiyan 4 will be used for space technology experiments and environmental observations, while Chuangxin 1-03 will be used for collecting hydrological and meteorological data, according to official Chinese accounts of the launch. The launch was the fifteenth this year by China, all but one of which have been successful.
