ILS wins contract for Eutelsat launch
Posted: Fri, Nov 11, 2011, 6:52 AM ET (1152 GMT)
International Launch Services announced this week it had won a contract to launch a Eutelsat communications satellite in 2013. ILS will launch Eutelsat W3D, a 5,300-kilogram satellite built by Thales Alenia Space, on a Proton in 2013. Eutelsat will use the satellite at 7 degrees east in GEO to provide Ku-band communications services for Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. The satellite is a replacement for Eutelsat W3B, which was lost shortly after launch because of a propellant leak.
