China launches maritime satellite

Long March 4B launch of Haiyang-2A (Xinhua) A Long March rocket placed a ocean observation satellite into orbit on Tuesday. The Long March 4B lifted off from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center at 6:57 pm EDT Monday (2257 GMT Monday, 6:57 am Beijing time Tuesday) and placed the Haiyang-2A into Sun synchronous orbit. The satellite is designed to monitor ocean conditions. The launch is the latest in a surge of Chinese launch activity that has seen several launches in the last month in a half.
