Proton selected to launch Inmarsat spacecraft

Inmarsat 5 illustration (Boeing) Inmarsat has picked International Launch Services to launch its next generation of mobile broadband satellites, the companies announced Monday. The three Inmarsat-5 satellites will be launched to geosynchronous orbit on Proton rockets in 2013 and 2014; specific terms of the deal were not disclosed. The three Boeing-built Inmarsat spacecraft will be used by Inmarsat's Global Xpress program to provide high-speed data services to mobile users worldwide. Total cost of the Global Xpress program, including the satellites, launch, and other expenses, is estimated by Inmarsat to be $1.2 billion.
