Soyuz 2 launch of first 6 Globalstar-2 satellites (Arianespace) The launch of six replacement Globalstar communications satellites on a Soyuz rocket was aborted at the last second early Monday. The Soyuz 2 rocket was to lift off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 10:58 pm EDT Sunday (0258 GMT Monday) but the launch was aborted just before liftoff. Russian officials did not immediately disclose the reason for the launch scrub, but the launch has been rescheduled for 24 hours later. The launch is the second of four Soyuz missions for Globalstar that will place 24 new satellites into orbit, replacing Globalstar's original constellation of low Earth orbit communications satellites.
