China launches experimental satellite

Long March 2C launch of SJ11-03 (Xinhua) A Long March rocket placed into orbit the latest in a series of Chinese experimental satellites on Wednesday. The Long March 2C rocket lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at 12:21 am EDT (0421 GMT, 12:28 pm Beijing time) Wednesday and placed the Shi Jian (SJ) 11-03 satellite into orbit. The satellite, official Chinese media said, will be used for space science and technology experiments, although Western observers have speculated that the satellites may have military applications as well.
