Minotaur launch postponed
Posted: Wed, Jun 29, 2011, 8:10 AM ET (1210 GMT)
Minotaur 1 launch of TacSat-3 (OSC) The launch of a small military satellite on a Minotaur rocket from Virginia was postponed Tuesday evening because of the weather. The Minotaur 1 rocket was to launch Tuesday night from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Island, Virginia, and place the ORS-1 satellite into orbit for the Defense Department's Operationally Responsive Space office. However, thunderstorms in the area led launch controllers to scrub the launch about three hours before the scheduled 8:28 pm EDT (0028 GMT) launch time. The launch has been rescheduled for Wednesday at the same time, with much better weather forecast. ORS-1 is the first operational spacecraft for the ORS Office, an organization which seeks to provide timely space-based solutions to urgent needs by military forces. The satellite will provide tactical imagery directly to troops in the field.
