China launches communications satellite
Posted: Tue, Jun 21, 2011, 7:25 AM ET (1125 GMT) A Long March rocket successfully launched a Chinese communications satellite on Tuesday. The Long March 3B rocket lifted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center at 12:13 pm EDT Monday (1613 GMT Monday, 12:13 am local time Tuesday) and placed the Chinasat-10, or Zhongxing-10, satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit nearly a half-hour later. The satellite will eventually be located at 110.5 degrees east in GEO, providing communications services at C- and Ku-band frequencies, replacing the existing Chinasat-5B satellite.
