Astronauts complete first STS-134 spacewalk
Posted: Sat, May 21, 2011, 9:08 AM ET (1308 GMT) Two astronauts spent more than six hours outside the International Space Station Friday performing maintenance on the station. Andrew Feustel and Gregory Chamitoff spent six hours and 19 minutes outside the ISS on an EVA that ended at 9:29 am EDT (1329 GMT) Friday. The spacewalk ended a little earlier than planned because of the failure of a carbon dioxide sensor in Chamitoff's spacesuit. During the EVA the two performed a series of miscellaneous tasks, including replacing experiments mounted on the station's exterior and installing new antennas. The early end of the EVA meant that wiring of the antennas was deferred to a later spacewalk, but the spacewalkers completed all the other tasks planned for the EVA. The spacewalk was the first of four scheduled for the STS-134 mission, and also the final planned spacewalks of the shuttle era.
