China launches imaging satellite
Posted: Tue, Aug 10, 2010, 7:50 AM ET (1150 GMT) China launched on Tuesday a new Earth imaging satellite. A Long March 4C lifted off from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center at 6:49 pm EDT Monday (2249 GMT Monday, 6:49 am Beijing time Tuesday) and placed the Yaogan 10 satellite into orbit. Chinese media said that the satellite will be used for scientific experiments and to carry out civil remote sensing applications, although Western observers believe the satellite, like its predecessors, will also be used for military reconnaissance applications.
