Astrium wins order for two remote sensing satellites

EADS Astrium announced this week that it has won a contract by the government of Kazakhstan for a pair of remote sensing satellites. The contract, announced during the visit of French President Sarkozy to Kazakhstan, covers the development of two different satellites: one capable of taking high-resolution imagery with a resolution of 1 meter and a medium-resolution spacecraft (7 meters) with a wide ground swath. The medium-resolution spacecraft will use a bus by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd., a smallsat manufacturer acquired by Astrium last year. The contract is valued at €230 million ($340 million).
