Shuttle undocks from ISS, prepares for trip home

STS-124: ISS after undocking (NASA) The space shuttle Discovery undocked from the International Space Station Wednesday morning and its crew performed an inspection of its exterior in advance of its return to Earth. Discovery undocked from the ISS at 7:42 am EDT (1142 GMT), performing a loop around the station to photograph the station in its current configuration before departing. Later in the day the shuttle crew performed an inspection of the shuttle's nose cap and wing leading edges to look for any damage, although previous inspections saw no problem areas. Discovery is scheduled to land back at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Saturday at 11:02 am EDT (1502 GMT).
