Progress docks with ISS
Posted: Sat, May 17, 2008, 7:09 AM ET (1109 GMT) A Progress cargo spacecraft carrying over two tons of supplies docked with the International Space Station on Friday. The Progress M-64 spacecraft docked at the nadir port of the Zarya module at 5:39 pm EDT (2139 GMT), just over two days after launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The spacecraft carries over 2,100 kilograms of food, water, propellant, and other supplies for the three-person station crew. The docking clears the way for the launch of the next shuttle mission, STS-124, at the end of this month. Meanwhile, NASA SpaceFlight.com reported Friday that NASA officials are considering the possibility of returning current ISS crewmember Garrett Reisman on STS-124 but not replacing him on the station with Gregory Chamitoff as planned, leaving the station without a US crewmember, out of concerns about the safety of the Soyuz spacecraft currently docked with the station.
