Thales Alenia Space and Orbital Sciences Corporation will work together to build a Korean communications satellite, the two companies announced Wednesday. Thales Alenia will serve as the prime contractor for the Koresat 6 spacecraft and provide the communications payload for the spacecraft. Orbital will provide the satellite bus and handle the satellite assembly, integration, and test activities. The satellite, scheduled to be delivered in late 2010, will weigh 2,750 kilograms and carry 30 Ku-band transponders. It will provide communications services for South Korea from 116 degrees east in GEO.
