Spacewalkers complete outfitting of Dextre
Posted: Tue, Mar 18, 2008, 8:42 AM ET (1242 GMT) Spacewalking astronauts spent nearly seven hours outside the ISS late Monday night, finishing work to prepare the Dextre robotic manipulator for work on the station. Rick Linnehan and Robert Behnken spent 6 hours and 53 minutes outside the ISS, wrapping up their EVA at 1:44 am EDT (0544 GMT) Tuesday. The two installed equipment on Dextre, the Canadian-built robotic manipulator carried to the ISS on the STS-123 shuttle mission, including a tool kit and cameras. The two also installed a spare parts pallet on the station's exterior, but were unable to install a materials science experiment on the exterior of the new Columbus module, apparently because of a problem with the experiment's anchoring pins; astronauts may try again during EVAs planned for Thursday and Saturday.
