Posted: Mon, May 14, 2007, 8:46 AM ET (1246 GMT)
SS/Loral 1300 satellite illustration (SS/Loral) Space Systems/Loral announced last week that it will build a communications satellite for SES New Skies that will replace one lost in a launch failure earlier this year. SS/Loral will build the NSS-12 satellite for New Skies in a deal announced May 10, terms of which were not disclosed. The spacecraft, to be completed in 2009, will be based on Loral's 1300 bus and carry 40 C-band and 48 Ku-band transponders. The spacecraft will operate from 57 degrees east, the slot that was to be occupied by New Skies' NSS-8 satellite. The spacecraft, built by Boeing, was lost in the Sea Launch failure in January.
