Atlantis lands safely

STS-115: landing (NASA) The space shuttle Atlantis landed without incident Thursday morning at the Kennedy Space Center, ending the first assembly mission to the ISS in nearly four years. Atlantis landed at KSC at 6:21 am EDT (1021 GMT), one day later than planned after shuttle mangers extended the mission to allow time for additional inspections of the shuttle's tiles and panels. Those inspections were prompted by the discovery of small debris objects orbiting in the vicinity of the shuttle; while the origin of those objects remains a mystery they apparently caused no damage to the orbiter. One more shuttle mission, by Discovery, is scheduled for this year, and NASA is considering moving the launch of that mission up a week to December 7 to permit the mission to be completed before the Christmas holidays.
