Weather postpones shuttle launch again
Posted: Sun, Jul 2, 2006, 2:35 PM ET (1835 GMT)
STS-121: logo (NASA) For the second straight day, inclement weather forced NASA to scrub the launch of the shuttle Discovery, with the next launch attempt now planned for Tuesday. Shuttle managers decided to scrub the launch more than two hours before the planned launch time because of strong thunderstorms in the vicinity of the Kennedy Space Center, conditions that would have prohibited a launch. NASA elected to wait 48 hours for the next launch attempt, scheduling it for Tuesday, July 4, at 2:38 pm EDT (1838 GMT); the extra time will be used to replenish hydrogen supplies for the shuttle's fuel cells and hope that weather conditions will improve. Current forecasts call for a 60-percent chance of acceptable weather.
